The Veneta City Council consists of a mayor and four councilors elected from the city at large. At each biennial general election, two council positions are voted on, each for a four-year term.
The mayor and councilors can be reached by calling City Hall at 541-935-2191. The Veneta City Council meets every second and fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 PM at City Hall, 88184 8th Street. Meetings are open to the public. The concurrence of a majority of the members of the council present shall be necessary to decide any question before the council. The City may exercise fully all of its powers possible under the United States and Oregon Law. Except as otherwise prescribed in the City of Veneta Charter, and as the Oregon Constitution reserves municipal legislative power to the voters of the city, all powers of the City are vested in the Council.
The duties of the Mayor include:
The Mayor presides over deliberations of the council, preserves order, enforces council rules and determines the order of business under the rules; and
Is a voting member of the council.
Shall have no veto power and shall sign all ordinances passed by the council within 3 days after their passing.
Appoints members of committees established by council rules.
Appoints other persons required by the council to be so appointed.
